Defense offers the greatest opportunity to improve your bridge!
When you're declarer, you can look at all 26 cards held by your side before making any decision about how to play. When you're a defender, you and your partner need to work as a team to try to defeat the contract, even though you can't see each other's cards. Good communication is the key to good defense.
As defenders, you must give each other as much information about your hands as possible to achieve your goal of defeating the contract. This is done by means of the cards you choose to play on each trick. As they play each card, defenders get a clearer picture of each other's hands. They use this information to try to defeat the contract. Defenders are not only trying to take their tricks, but also trying to do what they can to prevent declarer from taking tricks.
If you consistently put into practice the principles taught in this course, you'll experience much better results at the bridge table!
